I know that it does iPXE by default, but I want to create/modify a iPXE image in order to override filename and next-server properties. Ho... It is mountable and seems to be working fine. The OS installed is a Windows 7 32bits. I tried to start a vm on qemu with this image disk as "hda" : qemu-system-i386 -enable-kvm -hda my_image.001 -m 1024 -vga std & I tried it with qemu-system-x86_64 too. When I was testing before, I accidentally used the UEFI aarch64 AAVMF firmware from the package qemu-efi, and after that, it got errors with OVMF firmware too. I don't know the workaround for the issue, but I got it working now.

By default qemu-system-x86_64 does emulation, not virtualization. Emulation is slow and CPU intensive - you can see that by running top , which will show your CPU at close to 100%.
